Help for Riding for the Disabled IOM

Recently we responded to a request for aid from a local group, Riding for the Disabled IOM (RDA) – the charity has been operating on the Island for 40 years and is currently headed up by a committee which includes Brenda Charlton & Andrea Warrilow, plus around 40 volunteers. A new purpose built unit was planned for the location of the RDA IOM based at the Guilcagh Farm in Andreas.

DLP Sales and Surveying Manager, Tom Maynard and DLP Marketing Manager, Julie Corteen met with Brenda and Andrea to discuss their needs and a new kitchen and rest room facilities are now in production for them.

Tom from DLP said “It’s great to be able to help such a worthwhile charity, also one that is so closely related to our own core business.” He went on to say that “the facilities RDA are building out at the Guilcagh will be enjoyed by many for years to come so our equipment donation will be put to very good use.

Andrea from RDA said “Having advertised on social media hoping to get a few second hand kitchen units donated for our new clubroom RDA IOM were surprised and delighted to be offered a brand new and complete set of units, worktops and a sink by DLP. They have also found us a fridge – what luxury! Since meeting with Tom and Julie and discussing our needs they are also looking into sourcing a toilet, sink and other items for our disabled access rest room.

The generosity of Island businesses to charity always amazes me but DLP have really gone above and beyond this time. No more making coffee on a rickety paste table for our volunteers!! Being able to store much of our equipment in dust free units within our clubhouse will make such a difference to our efficiency and will mean our riders can spend more time riding and less time getting ready – what a great result!

It is hoped that the new facility will be up and running in time for the children going back to school in September – the building is already completed, as are the internal walls.
